The Ponte Vedra Women’s Civic Alliance (“P.V.W.C.A.”) was founded as a non-profit corporation in 2011 to foster friendship and work together for the good of the community. It provides services for St. Johns County organizations while strengthing community friendships among its members.
A major objective of the Alliance shall be to arrange educational, informational, and cultural programs for the members. At least one annual fundraising event will be held to benefit the St. John’s County community.
The purposes of the Alliance are defined in 3 principles:
2. to programmatically and financially support St. John’s County and the surrounding vicinities community projects;
3. to provide volunteer services in our community.
Friendship and service are the foundations of our organization. What makes the PVWCA unique is keeping our membership size around 60 women. We meet in each other’s homes and really get to know each other. What we all have in common is a deep desire to be lifelong friends and to support organizations that serve the diverse needs in the St. Johns community. And although our members live in the Ponte Vedra Beaches area, they come from locations around the world with a range of experiences and interests.
PVWCA has delighted many organizations and hearts within the St. Johns County Community. Every year, the PVWCA votes to select one St. Johns County-based charity as the beneficiary for their Annual Fundraiser. One of the criterion is to identify a charity that has limited funding resources to assure their financial contribution has a significant impact for their constituents. Past recipients have included Hope At Hand (an organization bringing art and poetry into the lives of those in crisis), Wildflower Clinic (a Good Samaritan Health Center), St. Johns County Education Foundation, and the Family Integrity Program of St. John’s County.
In addition to raising money, our members have volunteered for organizations who provide for children like Take Stock in Children and Hugs Across the County/Blessings in a Backpack. We have contributed to ones who serve pets, like St. John’s Animal Shelters, St. Johns Humane Society, and Pawsitive Pets, who provide a pet assisted reading therapy. We have collected and donated gifts for St. Francis House, a homeless shelter, Florida School for the Blind and Deaf, and we have decorated homes owned by St. Johns County Emergency Services and Homeless Coalition with Christmas decorations.
Beyond service, our organization focuses on building fellowship among members through fun events like happy hours, luncheons, kayaking adventures, cultural events, and guest speakers. We laugh and learn from each other. Every time we get together, our passion and drive to serve our community flourishes.
